Rapid Deployment (RD) beds designed to support UK field hospitals during COVID-19 pandemic.

Posted on April 14th 2020

From concept to manufacture, the Rapid Deployment (RD) bed has been quickly designed in a matter of days to assist the ever-growing need for hospital beds required for rapid deployment in areas such as field hospitals and emergency community settings.

The UK production facilities in Halifax are working tirelessly around the clock to produce these new beds in order to support the demand for nursing critically ill patients.

The rapid deployment bed is a fixed height, two section profiling bed with a manually adjustable backrest. Designed for ease and speed of assembly, the RD bed is ideal for areas such as the emergency temporary hospital environments. It doesn’t require electrical power, and no expert knowledge or specialist tools are needed to assemble the beds. The RD bed has quick release head and footends, and a lever to allow the backrest to be lowered quickly should CPR be required. There are two models of the RD bed available, one with and one without castors.

Packages are also available from Drive DeVilbiss to include the RD bed, a foam mattress and an overbed table to quickly and easily furnish emergency medical care environments.

“The RD bed has been designed, tested and produced in record fast time to ensure that we can do our very best to meet the increasing demand for hospital beds to support the new NHS Nightingale sites across the UK. I am extremely proud of all of the teams involved in this project, all working under very tight timelines.”
