With conformance playing an increasingly vital role in terms of safety in product innovation over recent years, Drive DeVilbiss subsidiary Sidhil has invested in a new, dedicated laboratory and test facility at the company’s West Yorkshire manufacturing site.
Sidhil’s commitment to product development means that the company places a very specific focus on product quality, user safety and compliance with international standards and directives. With the establishment of the company’s dedicated conformance department early in 2015, the decision was made to invest in a new laboratory area equipped to manage testing in line with the requirements of medical equipment standards such as IEC 60601-2-52.
“At Sidhil, we are committed to developing and manufacturing products that are safe, fit for purpose and durable,” stated Alastair Fry, conformance manager for the company. “We now have a future-proofed and dedicated facility allowing for physical, life cycle and environmental testing, dimensional analysis and other requirements as they present themselves. This enables us to evaluate products from our design and development team thoroughly, accurately and in a more efficient manner. As a result, we can get products to market quickly and safely, meeting our customers’ changing requirements.”
The laboratory represents a premium solution for Sidhil, with a sophisticated close control air conditioning system enabling accurate regulation of temperatures and humidity levels to facilitate rigorous environmental testing procedures. Accelerated test capabilities are used extensively to demonstrate which components may be subject to issues including wear, fatigue and structural weakness, identifying areas that may require further development prior to product launch. This aspect is increasingly important in an environment where Sidhil is now offering 10 year warranties on selected products.
